November 17, 2006 - Chipper Check Lite Released

The Beta version of the first ChipperCheck Lite release is now available here.  Chipper Check Lite is a compact version of Chipper Check II that can be used for Alignment of ALL Thomson and TTE DLP sets. ChipperCheck Lite does not use the parallel port but connects either through the Ethernet or Serial port depending on model. The serial G-Link Adapter cable can be ordered from TSN here. Click here for more ChipperCheck Lite information along with faqs.

Chipper Check II is being archived at the V1.86A level and will no longer be updated for new models. This means that Chipper Check II will not be upgraded for DLP Models with the ATC35x chassis. These can only be aligned using ChipperCheck Lite. Chipper Check II V1.86A can be downloaded from here

Chipper Check FAQs

Can Chipper Check work with a USB connection?
Currently, Chipper Check hardware and software does not work with USB.

I just received Chipper Check and there are no instructions. What do I do?
Load the software on your laptop. Once the software is up and running, it will prompt you to select a chassis. After selecting a chassis, the software will provide instructions on how to hook Chipper Check up to the chassis.

Where is the Chipper Check CCF002 upgrade kit?
CCF002 is no longer available. You will need to buy Chipper Check II available here.

Chipper Check is not communicating with the TV. What do I do?
Please make sure you check all your connections. If there seems to be a problem with Chipper Check, you can run its internal diagnostics program. Just open up the Chipper Check program, select the Diagnostics dropdown and run all diagnostics functions. If there is a problem, you can troubleshoot Chipper Check yourself with schematics and parts list located here. If you need to contact us, you can send us an email here.

When I try to connect Chipper Check  to an ITC008 I keep getting a message saying "Communication is not established. Check Connections."  Is my interface box the problem?
Changes made to the production software code in the ITC008 chassis micro will not allow it to connect to the EEPROM. Chipper Check can no longer be used with the ITC008 chassis. It is still listed in the program and Help file because this change was not discovered until after the latest Chipper Check code release.

I need the 7 pin to 4 pin Chipper Check adapter cable. Where can I order one?
This adapter is no longer available.

I need an adapter to hook Chipper Check to the following chassis:
Click here to order the adapter(s) you need.

The computer I use does not have a parallel port. Can I use a USB to Parallel adapter to connect chipper check to the computer?
No. There are signal lines used by Chipper Check that are not duplicated on a USB to Parallel Adapter.

The computer I use does not have a parallel port. I only need to connect through the Ethernet to a DM module but I get an Error when starting Chipper check telling me "NON existent port specified in chipper INI". Can I use the Ethernet Port without having a Parallel Port?
Yes. Version 1.84A and above will allow this.

Are MMC101/102 and MM101/102 the same thing?
Yes. In initial Chipper Check Software the MMC101 and MMC102 were listed as MM101 and MM102.

When trying to connect via Ethernet, I keep getting a message as follows:

Your current IP address is set to 127.0.0.1
The IP address needs to be set to 169.254.1.0
This is what I set the IP in the computer. What is the problem?
127.0.0.1 is the internal loop address of your computer and is displayed when the computer does not see a connection. Make sure the computer is connected to the DM module with a crossover cable and that it is powered in either run or standby when Chipper Check is started.

I downloaded Version1.84 from the Web Site. Now when I try Chassis Detect, I get a message: "Could not detect EEPROM on Run or Bus". I tried the Self-Diagnostic and get a message, "Data Line test fail. Data Line coming from Pin 10 (and 12) of the 36 Pin connector was low when it should have been High".
Version 1.84 had a bug that caused the problem. Download Version 1.84A or above.

I bought a new computer and now I can't get Chipper Check to communicate with a DM module over the Ethernet using a crossover cable. I had no problems with my older computer. Any Ideas?
We have had several complaints where Chipper Check is unable to connect to a TV via the Ethernet with a crossover cable. The majority of the problems have been isolated to the Chipper Check computer running some form of "Personal Firewall".

There are a number of Personal Firewalls available from different vendors. We suspect that any computer running a Personal Firewall will be unable to use the Ethernet and crossover cable to connect Chipper Check to a DM module.

To check your Computer:

  • Go to the "Start" button on the Task Bar.
  • Select Settings.
  • Select Control Panel.
  • Select Administrative Tools.
  • Select Services.
  • Look for any name that includes the term "Firewall"
In addition some operating systems like Windows XP come with a Personal Firewall that is sometimes defaulted "ON" when the computer is purchased. To check Windows Up to see if the Firewall is active. Go to the "Start" button on the Task Bar. Select "Help and Support". Search for the term "Firewall". Select the task "Enable or disable Internet Connection Firewall. And follow the instructions.

WARNING: FIREWALLS ARE USED TO HELP PROTECT AGAINST VIRUS ATTACKS TO YOUR COMPUTER. MAKE SURE TO REACTIVATE YOUR FIREWALL AFTER YOU HAVE FINISHED USING THE CHIPPER CHECK ETHERNET CONNECTION.

Can Chipper Check be used with the ATC221 and ITC222?
Yes. Chipper Check can be used to Download and Upload to the main EEPROM on the Small Signal Board (SSB) when it needs to be replaced. There are No Chipper Check alignments for these chassis. All alignments are to be done using the TV's service menu.
